I don’t get gassed very easily, if at all.
Very few shows actually impress, give you value for money, push the boundaries, or attempt to change the game. However, what I witnessed last night was a pivotal game changer.
When two of the worlds greatest lyrical wizards connect for a tour, it is difficult to imagine how they can pull it off. Kanye’s commitment to excellence has always been unmatched, and Jay has pretty much done everything except run for President (and i’m sure that’s on the cards at some point).
Even though I’m a self confessed stan of both artists and i’ve seen them perform many times, last night I was overly gassed by what they delivered. ‘Watch the throne’ is a natural progression for 2 Hip-Hop Gods like Ye & Jay, It is a concept that very few artists could pull off. Very few MCs have the legacy of hits as well as the ability to produce a classic collaborative album at the alleged peak of their careers.
The stage show confirmed their status as the elitist masters of their craft.
Attention to detail was exemplary.
Grand opening, Grand closing!! From their entrance, to their finale performance of ‘Ni***as in Paris’ X 6. The visuals throughout were thought provoking, the light show has progressed from the ‘Glow in the Dark’ tour, and their passion for the art form is relentless throughout the timeless set.
It is their mutual respect for each other that makes the stage show work so well. They wouldn’t be able to deliver the excellent 2 and a hour hour performance of 40 tracks without a real brotherly camaraderie that has evolved and clearly exists on and off stage.
You need to see this show.
You are not going to witness anything like this again.
It is an inspiring moment in Hip-Hop that will not be matched in this lifetime.
