The Mobo Awards 2011
Before I get into things, let me say that I think when the MOBO awards first launched, they were relevant, necessary and credible, unfortunately the same cannot be said today.
Tonight I have watched leading artists, journalists, bloggers & industry heads all complain online about the MOBO’s, the winners, the losers, about the credibility of the awards, about the organisers and more. It’s clear to me and quite evidently to the majority of the music industry and fans a like that this award has passed its sell by date.
Lets be real, we have all known that the MOBO’s have lacked credibility for some time now, it seems like only yesterday that people were complaining about Tinchy not winning any awards, a year on the same situation has happened with Wretch. Now here’s the problem, the people who rightly complain about the awards are the same one’s that support this dead ceremony, the same ones that attend and the same ones that hype it until they don’t get the winner they want.
Remember, just because Music Of Black Origin needs an award ceremony doesn’t mean that we should accept this mediocrity year after a year.
If as a collective people stopped supporting the awards, stopped giving it coverage, stopped blogging about it (Yes I know I’m writing about it now), attending and boycotted it then they would quickly cease to exist and those same energies spent complaining about them could be focused on trying to find someone or some people in the industry who could create an award ceremony that’s credible, relevant and one that might just reward good music!?
Just a thought.
