Diddy’s legacy with Bad Boy is undeniable……but his passion for Grime isn’t.
The scene out here is very healthy. A lot of artists have figured out the game and are doing very well.
It’s taken us a minute, but we’re finally the kings of our own castle instead of looking to the U.S. scene for help or approval.
We’ve got our own radio hits, club bangers, merchandise lines, swagger, gold and Platinum artists.
Proportionately according to US/UK demographics, most of our artists are doing as good as any U.S. MC if not better [any doubts do your research, get the stats, then come and talk to me].
Don’t get it twisted, I’m not dissing Diddy, and i’m not trying to disrespect the Boy Better Know camp in anyway. But it has to be recognised that Skepta has been on the grind for a minute, he did the T-shirt thing with the rest of BBK internationally before anyone else, fact! and now he’s getting the radio play and the chart positions without anyone’s co-sign.
Diddy isn’t the first to get a UK remix, and he isn’t the first to work with UK artists, which is a shame because he’s been back and forth from the UK since 95′. Its a real shame that he’s only paying attention now, as he could have done so much more for our artists, he could have made an actual difference back then.
Doing a remix with a U.S. artist is cool, that helps the U.S. artist over here, it doesn’t help the UK artist over there. The equilibrium isn’t balanced.
Diddy!!! do videos for both mixes, get them played on BET US. BET are trying to crack the UK right? Make it an epic story, not a marketing exercise. Get our artists on stage with you in New York, not just at a bougie private members club in London. Put down the Ciroc for a minute, and lets work together.
As you can see, the RT’s have spoken, the UK wants to see it happen.
So now it’s time for business. Talk on Twitter is cheap.
If you want to crack our market, work with us to crack yours.
You know already, there’s a lot of pounds to be made out here, help us get those dollars.
You can do it. Lets go!!!

i hear what your saying but really and truely Diddy doesn’t owe the Grime scene anything and he never once said he had a passion for grime. this has all come from ur own conscience mind Semtex. Whether or not he makes a video for the remixes will not determine if grime sells in the states. lets be honest before Diddy made this move you wouldn’t have even bothered to get the UK recognition by pulling this little stunt on your blog. Contrvosery sells and you have sold your self short with this article in my opinion.
He said it on twitter actually.
He said he’s been a fan of Grime for the longest time.
Do your research bro.
There’s no malice in this post, im just saying if he’s sincere about the TeamUK stuff that he’s shouting out, go all the way.
He has the resources to do it. Not sure why your so offended.
I agree with Semtex, it’s a big look and a big tune, but put your money where your mouth is.
Make this shit happen in New York. The rest of the US will follow if it blows on the East coast.
Can you imagine Jigga or Busta over a Grime or Dubstep beat?
Heard Jigga over FWD at Wembley. Swear it was Sem playing it? He killed it either way.
The UK is never gonna blow in the States. Why would it? They have their own homegrown rap culture and plenty of it. Dizzee might get a few sales and some of the keener heads out there might pick up on some other artists but it’s never gonna be massive in the states – not without watering down what makes it British. That’s fine. We can support our own artists.
Was more excited to hear UGK and Dizzee cos u could hear that was a collab between artists that respected each other. This is a marketing exercise.
Busta over someone like Royal-T though? Sickness
I love this Semtex.Good to see U standing strong with this view and not swaying to please other people I love that! Uk music!
Diddy don’t have to do Shit.
Let the UK artist who want to break through do so on there own talent and hardwork.
Who helped him break into the UK market?
Who helped David Guetta?
Realist talk, Semtex is on point. I saw the name of the track and thought.. hmm ok its nothing major anyway. Its good for skepta but not good for grime.
IF it were the other way, then big movements executed
Very True Sir and well written!!! I need to get an interview with you and put that out there cause your thoughts are rumbling throughout the UK… But I dear to say they did shoot a hello good morning video for the Truthboe Verse…

But I hear what you are saying fully!
Honestly… i have to agree with the others that disagree with this post.
Diddy doesn’t owe anyone shit… he doesn’t have to do anything for anyone, why should he?
That’s the problem with this world, people go around with the mentality that they are owed all this stuff from other people… smh.
Yeah, this article has been brewing, i felt something would be said.
The track in question doesnt appeal to me, but the debate does Skepta doesnt (and shouldnt) need a co-sign from Diddy to solidify or validate his grind and success in the UK market, but if Puff was serious about his ‘love of grime’ he wouldve made moves way back….
There’s a sub-culture in New York that has been playing and supporting Grime since about 5 years ago (when i last was in the big apple)…artists like Diz and Skepta were on the radar then…if Bad Boy really had their ear to the street they would’ve acted.
I respect Puff, how can you not, but he is a sensationalist…. ‘we invented the remix’ etc….this is a little stunt for his reputation, nothing more….like we said, shoot a video, work with these artists, get them on tracks with other established US acts…..
On the flip side I dont really believe it should be a defining goal for British artists to ‘break’ America…what for? the money? the fame? The cream naturally rises to the top, and I’d like to believe that the true artists amongst our numbers are happy to just be putting out great music that they believe in…. maybe I’m gassed!
And another thing….whydoes it have to be ‘grime’ Diddy latches on to….there’s BEEN plenty of quality rappers in this country…so many forgotten names…but i digress….
Fair article i think Sem, it sparks debate anyway!
You’re so right, Semtex man.
semtex why dont you start supporting as well ur a hater your an industry prick pretending to b down fool
