To give away 11 Zip files of 202 tracks in 1 day could be considered an act of insanity or a stroke of genius. He said he leaked the tracks because he wasn’t sure what to do with them. It wasn’t an actual strategy…..but it kind of was.

It looks insane because he gave away a bulk of his unsigned catalogue. Some people are saying he is de-valueing music, some people are saying he’s lost his marbles.

Really?

Very few artists have produced the same amount of material within the lifespan of their career. Or if they did a similar move no one would care or bother to download a file.

Wiley gave you batches of the lowest quality unmixed, unmastered MP3′s. You can check them out, but you can’t play them in a club or playlist them. There is still a value for some of the recordings, once finished.
This is actually a great platform for all the featured artists like Wrigz or Cherri V, and indirectly he’s actually rewarded all his fans that have stuck by him over the years.

Wiley is a different guy……

He’s had more label deals than any other rapper, and there are labels out there that are still willing to work with him. He is a prolific artist, and he can write/produce the same amount of material within months if not weeks. No doubt he’s saved the best stuff in a different vault, and he will probably get another deal on the back of this move.

Expect the Zip album to be in stores before the end of the year.

**Please, no best of mixtapes unless its from the man himself.

    yes wiley is insane for this, but all geniuses in history were insane and different from the average person.

    no doubt wiley has put a lot of time & effort and money into making all this music that he just gave away.

    after spending a hour just downloading the 11 folders i have to say i was pleasently suprised at how much wiley has evolved from the grime and is sounding musicaly superior then any uk artist at the moment

    wiley might not have all the achievements and accolades that dizzee or other popular artists have but instead he is infact Englands most prolific “urban” musician.

    well done to wiley on all the great music. his next move should be interesting

    Anyone at Wiley’s level making such a fresh move that surprises a formula-induced music industry deserves all the props you can give the man.

    And defo not devaluing music, artists do that everyday of the week…….he’s just done it at a next level.

    The most intriguing urban British artist by a long stretch, he’s got our attention……let’s see what he does with it.
