  • THE MOBOS | REAL TALK

    THE MOBO TICKET

I fully respect Kanya King for what she has created. I think there is a need for an award show that reflects the achievements of artists from the UK. The production on this years show was strong, and the Glasgow crowd were brilliant as always.

Every Urban artist doing it today has done all the groundwork to get themselves to a mainstream leveI: Dizzee, Wiley, Tinchy, Chipmunk, DJ Ironik, etc, and there is a whole other wave of artists coming through in 2010.

The fact that the Sun newspaper is doing a tour called ‘Rappers Delight’ shows that there is a real change happening in the UK. The Sun??? doing a Hip-Hop tour???? I can honestly say that I’ve never seen them put their name to such an event before, and it’s brilliant that they are doing it. Its great for the scene, and great for all of the artists involved.

Is this the biggest year for UK street music? Or is it going to be even bigger next year? who knows, but this was the year to get it right.

*The first UK MC to perform main stage at Glastonbury.
*GQ male artist of the year.
*Top 3 album (53,000+ sales week one)

    …..I can go on

    TINCHY STRYDER ONSTAGE

    TINCHY STRYDER

    Achievements in 2009

    * 1 million singles sold on his debut album.
    *His first sell out tour.
*Top 3 album (30,000+ sales Week one)
*The creation of a highly successful merchandise line.

    …….I can go on.

We all know its show BUSINESS, we all know it isn’t down to the vote. Whether Dizzee attends the Mobos or not isn’t the issue, whether Tinchy attended the Mobos launch or not, isn’t the issue.

Both artists are changing the shape of Popular Culture in the UK, both artists are selling units, both artists are changing the Business model of the music industry, and inspiring the next generation.

Sorry Mobos, this was the year to get it right.

SIDEBAR: Having the Funky artists perform within the dinner tables was a par. C’mon, any minute now this scene is going to explode, it deserves a bit more respect.

I think they need to stop bending over backwards to get USA artists involved. The UK has enough black artists and artists making black music in the charts for the award show not to include Americans. They could have two catagories for best international male & female and thats it.

I didn’t even watch cause I knew they wouldn’t show much of the funky performance. Moreover there’s still no garage, dubstep or grime awards? Yet they have an award for American RnB and Hip Hop smh

i truly agree with you semtex the prove is in the pudding, but i think the funky thing was a nice touch,it might of been hard to slot them in aswell

it’s a bit of a joke when someone like Chipmunk can beat much more talented and successful artists. Dizzee and Drake have done so much more this year than Chipmunk and they actually make good music.

    4. jr, October 2, 2009:

chipmunks album aint even out yet and he won? nothing against him but tinchy has accomplished more than chip this year

wretch has an album out didnt get nominated, bashy didnt win neither did dizzee

it was a poor show and to top it off they did a mj tribute that wasnt needed and latoya jackson needs to calm down and stop reminding everyone that michael would have been so happy, its getting more than emotional

Never saw the MOBOs( dont watch the Brit Awards either) I think that the UK needs to honour all great home grown music equaly in one event . Just watched Tinchy for the first time ( late I Know) and i was blown away by the fresness and diversity of the music a truly cross culture sound festivial.
